There was a moment when the lights went out
When death had claimed its victory
The King of Love had given up His life
The darkest day in history
Mark 15:33 tells that from noon to 3p while Jesus hung on the cross, darkness covered the land. This is no coincidence considering that Jesus was the Light of the World, and He was on His way out of it. Satan thought he had won.
There on a cross they made for sinners
For every curse His blood atoned
One miraculous breath
And we’re forever changed
This line got me thinking about what Jesus’s resurrection means. I’m reminded of the story in Mark 12, where a religious group called the Saduccees tried to trap Jesus. This group didn’t believe that there was a resurrection after death. Jesus gives a response to them in verse 26, where He says “But regarding the fact that the dead rise again, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the burning bush, how God spoke to him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?” He is not the God of the the dead, but of the living”
You see, HIS resurrection (His miraculous breath) means life for US (we’re forever changed). A world without the resurrection is a world of fear. It’s a world without hope. But we are alive. And we are promised that this life continues beyond this world. So live each day like you’re alive. Not dead in your sins. Not without hope. And remember. That life you have was bought at a price. The King of Life gave up His own for you. So honor that sacrifice by living for Him.
