Yes I Will

Have you ever played a game in which two people picked teams out of a group of people?  Have you ever been the last one picked?  If you have, you understand the weight that a choice carries.  How important it is to not only have a choice, but to be chosen.  Let’s dive into this idea of choice in this song.

I count on one thing
The same God who never fails
Will not fail me now
He won’t fail me now

What can you count on in your life?  2 Timothy 1:12 says, “For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day.”  Paul was in prison awaiting his execution for being a follower of Christ.  But He knew that God held ultimate possession over his life.  He was convinced, and he could count on the fact that his life was still in God’s hands.  No circumstance could ever take that away from him.  Do you have the same assurance?

In the waiting
The same God who’s never late
Is working all things out
You’re working all things out

How quickly do the most important changes in your life come?  Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”  Even the account of creation shows that God uses time to accomplish His purposes.  And in this verse, the word “work” implies action.  Time is a necessary component to action.  What circumstance in your life is God asking you to be patient in as He does His work?

Yes I will
Lift You high in the lowest valley
Yes I will bless Your name

Do you have a tough time praising God in the difficult circumstances of your life?  David says in Psalm 23:4, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me;”  If you can’t lift yourself out of the circumstances of your life, you still can lift up the One who can.  Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”  Know that the Lord hears you in your current struggle.  What challenge are you facing right now that you need to “praise Him anyway” in?

Yes I will
Sing for joy when my heart is heavy

How many times have you been feeling down, and a song you love pulls you out and lifts your spirits?  Psalm 100 is a great encouragement.  “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.  Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.  Know that the Lord is God.  It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.  Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.  For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”  We are His chosen people, and He promises to be faithful to us.  That is reason enough to sing for joy.  Be intentional about allowing the Lord to use music to bring His comfort and truth to the difficult circumstances of your life.  What song have you found that lifts you up in times of sadness or difficulty?

I choose to praise
To glorify glorify
The Name of all names
Nothing can stand against

How do you feel like the world is against you right now?  Romans 8:38-39 says, “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  There’s power in knowing that no circumstance in our life, including death, can separate us from the love of God.  There’s freedom in knowing that we are loved no matter what failures may come our way or we may bring upon ourselves.  Which voice is speaking more loudly in your life, the voice of your circumstance or the voice of the Lord?

For all my days
Yes I will

So what will you choose?  What will you say “yes I will” to?  There’s power in a choice.  The opposite is enslavement.  If you choose to praise regardless of your circumstances, those circumstances no longer have a hold over you.  You are no longer enslaved by the situations that occur, wavering back and forth between joy and sadness, motivation and depression.  Take control over your circumstances right now and choose to praise God for who He is, and for all the promises He has made for you, knowing with confidence that He will be faithful to keep His promises to you.
