In the heart of Frederick, Maryland, a band was born out of family ties, musical exploration, and a deep commitment to faith. Meet Oversoon, a groovy pop band composed of brothers Daniel, Jordan, and Jared. From their early days playing together in their church’s youth group band to becoming a force in the indie music scene, Oversoon has been on a remarkable journey that led them from Maryland to central Pennsylvania and continues to unfold their musical adventure.
The story of Oversoon began to take shape in 2017 when they played a talent show at the quaint “Beans in the Belfrey” coffee shop in Maryland. What started as a performance of an acoustic cover of MUTEMATH’s “Monument” soon evolved into a full-time genuine passion for music. The positive feedback from these early performances fueled their desire to pursue music more seriously. Taking music production courses at Messiah College and writing and producing songs for Daniel’s senior commercial music project marked the beginning of their creative endeavors.
The idea behind “Oversoon” is the reality that all of our lives will be “over soon.” While this may sound depressing at first, it is actually quite an exciting idea for those who know Christ and will have eternal life with him after death. The infinity sign within the “O’s” of Oversoon represents the eternal perspective they bring to their music. It’s a reminder that life’s purpose goes beyond achievements and material success; rather, it’s about living faithfully and entering into an eternalized form of life with Christ later on.
Being a family band has its challenges, but for Oversoon, the benefits outweigh the costs. The deep trust forged over years of resolving conflicts and the absence of judgment within the band foster a creative environment where they can freely express themselves. The bond they share extends beyond the music, making their journey both a challenge and a blessing.
In 2019 and 2020, Oversoon embarked on a significant project – the creation of their concept album, “Hourglass Relations.” which, crafted with dedication and creativity, delves into the theme that love is not merely an emotion but a significant choice. The popular track “Hammerman and I,” is the first song of the second half which explores themes of forgiveness and rebuilding relationships. It’s a poignant reflection on choosing to follow a higher path, regardless of the choices made by others. The whole album is a testament to Oversoon’s commitment to delivering music with depth and meaning.
In early 2022, Oversoon decided to reimagine three songs from their debut album, exploring new sounds and honing their production skills. “Reflection,” the second single in this series, transforms the synth-laden spacey sounds of “Alleyway” into a rubber-bridge folk sound. Collaborating with Mackenzie Paige, a powerhouse artist they met in college, adds another layer to the band’s evolving sound. The creation of Oversoon’s distinctive rubber bridge guitar sound for this song was inspired by their admiration for the tones in Ethan Gruska’s “En Garde” and Jordy Searcy’s “Molly.” After Jordan discovered a reel where Jordy Searcy explained the construction of a rubber bridge guitar, Daniel and Jordan dedicated an entire day to crafting their own version.

Unlike relying heavily on post-production effects, Oversoon focused on meticulous craftsmanship. The minimal post-production allowed the natural, modified sound of the rubber bridge guitar to shine through.

When asked about dream collaborations, Oversoon’s eyes are set on Paul Meany, known for his production skills, catchy grooves, and knowledge of synthesizers. Paul was the frontman for the band MUTEMATH (who’s song Monument was the first song they ever played at that quaint coffee shop), co-produced “Trench” by Twenty One Pilots, and has worked with many other artists like half•alive, Pierce the Veil, Youngblud, K.Flay, and others. The band looks forward to the possibility of working with him in the future.

Their short-term goal is to transition into full-time musicians within the next 1-2 years, driven not by financial aspirations but by a desire to pour their hearts and souls into their craft.
