I lean not on my own understanding
My life is in the hands of the Maker of Heaven
Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;” It doesn’t say that we are not supposed to have understanding. It just says that we are not supposed to lean on it. Not supposed to put our full weight on it, or to trust in it as the guiding force of our lives. Psalm 25:1-2 says, “Lord, I put my life in your hands. I trust in you, my God, and I will not be disappointed.” Ask yourself, do I believe that my life is in God’s hands? Take a moment to surrender into God’s hands those areas that you are clinging to the most tightly.
I give it all to You, God
Trusting that You’ll make
Something beautiful out of me
Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” It starts with believing that you were created by God for greater and more beautiful things that what we can currently do. But we can’t do it on our own. Romans 15:13 says, “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing that you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Spirit.” It is through partnering with the Holy Spirit that we can realize all that God has in mind for us. But it starts with trust! Take a moment to offer all your hopes and dreams to Him, and then ask that the Holy Spirit take what you have to give and make it more than you could have ever realized by yourself.
I will climb this mountain with my hands wide open
There’s nothing I hold onto
1 John 2:15-17 says, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” The simple reality is that the temporal things of this world pass away. Not just at the end of our lives, but can pass away at any time in our lives. We have to journey with God always with our hands open, willing to accept whatever He has to give us, and willing to give back to him what is already His. Ready to respond to every situation with a combination of willing surrender and hopeful expectation. Knowing that in the middle of it all sits God on the throne, and Christ resurrected ensuring our salvation ensuring our life beyond this world. What are you holding too tightly to that you need to let go of? And what has the Lord been trying to put into your hands that you have been unwilling to take? Take some time to contemplate that, and ask that the Holy Spirit continue to make you aware of the Lord’s presence and His leading.
